Immigration Bill Killed On Cloture Vote
Thursday, June 28th, 2007The Democrat-favoring Amnesty For Illegal Aliens Bill Of 2007 (S. 1639) was killed on a cloture vote today in the United States Senate.
The vote was 46 for and 53 against ending debate so the bill could move forward. Sixty votes are required for cloture. (Roll Call Vote)
Of the Democrats, 34 voted for (including former Democrat, now Independent, Lieberman) and 15 Democrats voted against; Democrat-leaning Socialist Sanders (Independent) also voted against.
Of the Republicans, 12 voted for, 37 against. Among the Republican traitors voting for are:
Bennett (R-UT)
Craig (R-ID)
Graham (R-SC)
Gregg (R-NH)
Hagel (R-NE)
Kyl (R-AZ)
Lott (R-MS)
Lugar (R-IN)
Martinez (R-FL)
McCain (R-AZ)
Snowe (R-ME)
Specter (R-PA)
Both Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama voted for.
Opening up the floodgates to uneducated, unskilled immigrants and rewarding lawbreakers is a terrible idea. Of course, Democrats would benefit greatly as they have a lock on the underclass vote. Uneducated people love Democrats.
Democrats received roughly 60% of the Hispanic vote in 2004. That share rose to about 70% in the 2006 election, largely as a result of Republican opposition to amnesty for illegal immigrants–most of whom are Hispanic.
